Oysters

Oysters ~ a type of aphrodisiac food. Just like chocolates but they are more of an acquire taste. Not many people love the taste of oysters, especially raw coz it tastes like iron aka blood and we Asians really do not have the nick of eating raw food right? Even our steaks are well done, how do we expect to eat fresh oysters when we cant bare rare steak? So... back to oysters. Taken from the book Oyster by Rebecca Stott, ' Casanova is said to have eaten 50 raw oysters every morning with his mistress of the moment, in a bathtub designed for two. Whether oysters truly have exciting properties is open to debate, but like all seafoods, they contain high amounts of phosphorus and iodine, which are believed to be conducive to stamina '. Yea... see how wild Casanova is. So women, if your man has a nick for oysters, do watch him closely. You may never know what his daily activities consist of. Hmmm... I should suggest to Mr. Hor Ny Ang Moh to eat more oysters to help him with his daily 'exercise'. I bet he will be on top form if he consume more oysters. Well, at least it works better and more naturally rather than taking your daily dose of Viagra.

Well, today im not gonna talk all about the aphrodisiac qualities of oysters. Im just giving an intro. The main topic of the day is... EASY OYSTER RECIPES!!! ^^ Im a food lover, dont blame my hungry tummy. (Its croaking right now after a heavy work-out at the gym =.= )

Oysters... In Kuching, you can get them fresh at Choice Daily, Tabuan Laru during the shipping in of the stocks from Australia. It costs a whooping RM 42 for a dozen of fresh oysters. Well, its worth it if you're craving for fresh oysters all the time. If not, you can just get the frozen oysters in the freezers which cost like 1/5 of the fare you're getting from the freshies.

Easiest way to cook oysters is : Roasted Oysters!!!

Just get fresh live oysters... Salt and pepper to taste.

Brush the oysters clean. Then arrange them in a baking tray. Stuff them in the oven of around 230 C until the shell breaks open. Then sprinkle enough salt and pepper for taste. Remember to serve it with a seafood dipping sauce or Tabasco sauce. That does the trick. And dont forget some lemon wedges. No oyster is tasty without its lemon. =D

The second way to cook oysters is... Oyster Soup with Fresh & Smoked Oysters!!!

Ingredients : 16 fresh Oysters, and their liquid; 7 oz Smoked Oysters, well rinsed in cold water, gently patted dry; 6 slices Bacon, cut into thin strips; 1 large Onion, dice into fine pieces; 1 large Leek, white part only, sliced thin; 1 large Red Potato, peeled and diced into 1/2 inch cubes; 1 cup Whipping cream; 4 cup Milk; 1/2 cup bottled Clam Juice; 4 cups packed young Spinach Leaves; 1/2 tsp Salt; freshly ground White Pepper

Directions : Cook the bacon in a pot over medium high heat until lightly browned, about 4 minutes. Add the onion and leek and cook until softened, about 4 minutes, stirring often. Add the potato, cream, milk and clam juice and bring to boil. Simmer, uncovered, until potato is just short of cooked, about 8 minutes. Add the spinach and fresh and smoked oysters. Cook just until fresh oysters are cooked, about 1 minute. Add additional clam juice if needed for consistency. Season with salt and white pepper to taste. Serve oyster soup in shallow serving bowls with fresh bread or toasted French Bread. Yummy!

Or the favorite way we Asians love them to be cooked... OH JIAN... or... err... how do you call them? Oyster Omelette? Yea... i guess thats right... OYSTER OMELETTE!!!

1 tablespoon each tapioca starch and rice flour; 2 ounces chicken stock; 3 eggs, beaten; 8-10 small oysters ( frozen is acceptable)

Mix all the ingredients except the oysters together. Heat up a big wok or non-stick wok and add in the oil. When oil is hot, pour in the mixture and after that, immediately drop the oysters on the egg mixture before it gets cooked. As gently as you can, flip the omelette over so that both sides can get cook. When its crisp, off flames and serve with a simple sauce made of fish sauce and pepper. That surely works like magic. =)

So, there you go... easy recipes for you to make at home. ^^ But for me, my favorite is still... FRESH OYSTERS WITH TABASCO AND LEMON!!! YUMMMMMM!!!

Ahhh... look at the freshness, the fleshy fleshy meat... the tangling aroma... ahhh... cant wait to get my hands on more... ^^

If there is any Oyster buffet happening somewhere around Kuching, do let me know okay? I wanna go!!! Or any restaurant that sells fresh Oysters... or yummy Oysters... or any how they cook it. =D I lurveeee oysters...

P.s. I love it not because of its aphrodisiac qualities lar... =.= No doubt give me good stamina for working out at the gym... xD
