The Road Not Taken

Im sort of at a crossroad right now... ok wait... not crossroads... but a fork road. I cant seem to make up my mind on which engineering course should i take for in my degree studies. Its either civil engineering, mechanical engineering or electrical and electronics engineering. Well, all these courses are certainly very very new to my family and i... coz none of us... I REPEAT... NONE of us, either from dad's or mum's is in this field. We have lots of doctors, few architects, accountants, pharmacist and lawyers... but NO ENGINEERS. So... its just like a new stream for me... a road not taken... which is still grassy, untouched. I made the first step to trod on that green pasture. But whatever it is... its all been path out for me already... just i have to get my mindset right.

Civil engineering...

There are many pros and cons in studying civil engineering. The pros are: i will definitely have a job when i graduate, earn big bucks, easiest to study course in Engineering, break the family record, fulfill my dreams of building a teddy bear building, erm... and the cons are: you get black coz you need to go under the sun to supervise works, might get raped or harass by those construction workers, wont get much respect because civil is a men's field, cannot get married and yada yada...

Mechanical engineering...

Pros: none i can think of
Cons: i dont know how to deal with machines and movements and such... =_=

Electrical and electronic engineering...

Pros: No need to go under the sun... so can take care of your looks pretty easily...
Cons: Hardest course to study (from what ive heard), i dont do any shouldering, and i suck pretty bad in electrical particles... haha...

So... what should i study then? It seems everything is pointing directly at Civil... but i still need some feedbacks from soon-to-be engineers and husband about my future career prospect... tried talking to my parents... civil it is... sighs...

So... whats your opinion?

Hallo! Civil eng....it depend on when u finished study. If boleh land economy pick by then, then u can find job in construction industry! Right now construction is slowing down. The other two eng u can still find job in big co.
But then with an eng cert u can find job maybe in other field! For eg I know a Bank Manager with the qualification of bio tech!
Good luck! BTW tq for dropping at my site! Have a nice day!

thanks for dropping by too... =D

Well, i think civil engineering has a good prospect. My friend (also doing degree in civil eng.) told me that Middle Eastern company are willing to pay you big money if you're willing to work.
Don't worry about the sun, as there are lots of sunblock product in the market. :)

Quick quick make choice! dont bother wad ur parent says, as long as u determine and wanted to take up those course, i m sure ur parent would let you.and dont worry bout n0t knowing how to operate the machine. Four years duration of courses, is goin to teach u how to do so. Dont worry, follow ur instinct.

I think you should choose what you really like.
Actually no one can predict what will happen in the future, right? How can you know whether this particular field has more opportunities than the other? No one really knows, right?
Take designs and arts for example, many parents think they have no future blah blah blah, but look at those who earn big bucks, they have a bright future, right?
I'm not saying that you shouldn't follow what your parents say, I just hope you can think properly before you choose, because if you're not interested in a particular field, no matter how high the possibilities of finding a job, you won't be able to cope for long, and who knows after a while the "better" fields are not "better" after all?

[lovie] yea, ur right... im gonna take civil even though there are cons... coz i bet the pros will eventually be better then... sighs...
